Meet Anthony Mascarenhas, the family man who has stories for days!  When he’s not fishing, you can find him doing what he does best – jotting down his latest tale.  The website was named after a song, Roses in the Sea, which he heard in his youth group in Pune, India.

Roses in the Sea

Lyrics: Fr Cyril Desbruslais, sj, Pune, Music:  Fr Terrence Quadros, sj, Mumbai

I’m looking for roses

Roses in the sea

Just for an honest chance to live

An honest chance to be free

I’m searching the wide world over

For life, for liberty

It’s much easier to find

Roses in the sea

Sprawled on a bloody battlefield

A soldier twists in the slime

Half his face has been blasted away

He’s fallen for the last time

Far away people are waiting

For Jimmy to come back to them

Poor people they are waiting in vain

They won’t see their Jim again

I’m looking for roses

Roses in the sea

Just for an honest chance to live

An honest chance to be free

I’m searching the wide world over

For life, for liberty

It’s much easier to find

Roses in the sea

My searching isn’t over

In fact, it’s just begun

In these few years that are left to me

There’s plenty to be done

And on that day I close my eyes

Perhaps I then shall see

Those roses that I dreamt about

Those roses meant for me.

I’m looking for roses

Roses in the sea

Just for an honest chance to live

An honest chance to be free

I’m searching the wide world over

For life, for liberty

It’s much easier to find

Roses in the sea
